Chapter 4 of CBSE 11 Biology is Animal Kingdom. It involves lot of examples of each phylum. Here is the complete list of the examples. This should be revised often. The list here is mentions the economic importance , other features, like digestive system, respiratory system etc. This will be helpful for the students who are preparing for NEET exam.
Phylum Porifera(Sponges)
Sycon(Scypha)
Spongilla (Fresh water sponge)
Euspongia(Bath Sponge)
Phylum Coelenterata(Cnideria)
These have two basic body forms:
Polyp: Medusa
Examples: Hydra and Adamsia Examples: Aurelia (Jelly fish)
Polyp produce medusae asexually, and medusae form polyp sexually (Eg: Obelia)
Other examples of Coelenterata:
Physalia( Portuguese man of war), Adamsia (Sea anemone), Pennatula( Sea pen), Gorgonia (Sea fan ), Meandrina (Brain coral)
Phylum ctenophor (Sea walnut or comb jellies)
Examples : Pluerobrachia and Ctenoplana
Phylum Platyhelminthes:
Examples : Taenia (Tapeworm), Fasciola (Liver fluke)
Phylum Aschelminthes
Examples : Ascaris (Round worm), Wuchereria (Filaria worm ), Ancylostoma (Hookworm)
Phylum Annelida
Examples:
Aquatic annelids with lateral appendages( Parapodia) : Neries
Aquatic annelids which is dioecious : Neries
Monoecious : Leeches, Earthworm
General examples : Nereis, Pheretima (Earthworm ), Hirudinaria (Blood sucking leeach)
Phylum Arthropoda
Examples:
Economically important insects : Apis (Honey bee), Bombyx (Silk worm ), Laccifer (Lac insect)
Vectors : Anopheles, Culex, Aedes (Mosquitoes )
Gregarious pest : Locusta (Locust)
Living fossil : Limilus (King crab)
Phylum mollusca :
Examples: Pilla ( Apple snail ), Pinctada (Pearl oyster), Sepia ( Cuttlefish), Loligo (Squid), Octopus ( Devil fish), Aplysia (Sea hare), Dentalium ( Tusk shell ), Chaetoplueura ( Chiton)
Phylum – Echinodermata
Examples : Asterias ( Star fish), Echinus ( Sea urchin), Antedon (Sea lilly ), Cucumaria (Sea Cucumber ), Ophiura (Brittle star)
Phylum Hemichordata
Examples : Balanoglossus, Saccoglossus
